New Leaf, day 4

Hi, again!

Yesterday DC and I made a quick trip to Memphis to worship in the temple. It was so wonderful! Like a Super Date. :) It barely fit into a school day for the boys. Sweet. I hope we can do it again sometime if DC has the day off during the week. . . .

049

Anyway, so I missed day 3 of attacking the Monster. It got one more day to sit in smug contemplation of the frenzied efforts that had as yet been futile.

But today I was Back.

I spent my allotted hour on this little beauty. . . .

045 edit

To my happy amazement, I was able to throw away a lot of it!! I thought for sure that all of it would be painstaking home-finding for each little paper. I had forgotten that when school got out last May <ahem> and the boys brought home full backpacks after cleaning out their desks, I had never gone through the piles. We had left immediately for AZ and when I got back all nauseated and cranky I stuffed all of it into the bags depicted above. Yeehaw, it felt good to throw away so much paper!!!

The rest of it was more difficult. There was even a stash of Christmas letters and cards from. . . gulp. . . .2006.

In a later post, I'll explain what my intentions are regarding the dreading Memorabilia stack. I do have a Plan! :)

P.S. In your wonderful drill-sergeant comments, will you please state your favorite TYPE of chocolate? (imported, dark, Hershey's, with filling, etc.) I am a dark, European chocolate sort of gal myself, but I know that not everyone shares that taste and I want to know better how to shop for the GIVEAWAY. :)

Throwing away papers is so cathartic! Keep plugging away at it! Everything looks so much tidier without loads of papers. I don't feel like a drill sergeant at all, I feel like you're motivating me! Taking a day off to go to the temple is definitely worth it!
GO Michelle GO!

PS- Dark Chocolate is the only way to go!!

The darker, the more European, the better. I do hope that your fair city has a paper recycling program and instead of putting the paper in the garbage it is going in the recycle bin ;) However, if it doesn't, throwing away is better than piling up!

There is something utterly satisfying about just trashing massive piles of paper. ^-^ You're doing a fantastic Michelle... keep it up! You can do it!

P.S, did you know that dark chocolate is suppose to actually be healthy for you!?!

Any kind of chocolate suits me fine!

I like cleaning the girls room and going through their papers when they are at school. It's easier when they have no idea that I threw anything away.

I just went through Savannah's papers from last school year, too. They had been residing in her closet. Most went in the garbage, the ones I kept I put in a tupperware box that is just for her special school papers. I have one just for Dakotah, too.

I am so glad you were able to attend the temple. I have not been to Memphis temple yet. Maybe sometime. Coongrats on tackling that paper monster. I am sad to say, mine will have to wait till my parents are gone. Probably easier to do when the boys are gone with their dad the first week of Oct. I am stressing over all the arrangments for Owen's baptism this Sunday. Keep up the good work, love you.

I love smooth milk chocolate from anywhere, not a big fan of dark.

You are doing a super job, keep it up! I got a tote for each one of the kids and have stuff in there from birth all the way through graduation and now am putting college things in it. They love to go in there and see what they did when they were younger. As Bailey makes her own milestones Jeremy asks - when did I start doing that? And then I go into his box and find out and tell him. It is special. When it started getting full I would go through it and have to throw away things that were similar but that I only needed one of, not one each year. That way I keep it to one tote each.

I second that--YOU are motivating ME!! I have hidden bags of old bills that need to be shredded, but there is so much now that I'm wishing there was a shredder truck that could come around! If you have any ideas, let me know! I don't think we're allowed to burn it in back yard either. Will I have to dig in and shred?

Aren't Wal-Mart bags wonderful ----- grocery take home, storage, doggie/cat pooh, garden tie strings, vacation carry-alls, wet swimsuits, dirty shoes, stinky baby diapers, trash can liners, on and on and on the list goes ----- BUT BEST OF ALL IS WHEN THEY ARE EMPTY !!!

KEEP IT UP, THE RECYCLE BIN AT WAL-MART IS CALLING ------ NOW !!

P.S. IS THAT THE FLOOR IN THE CORNER OF YOUR CLOSET????

I WOULD LIKE ---- "AHEM" ------ "CHERRY MASH". SO YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN STORES: WWW.CHERRYMASH.COM

No, seriously ---- I'm proud of you! You keep up the good work ---- every effort no matter how small is an accomplishment ---- one day closer to your goal. YOU ARE JUST TOO WONDERFUL!!! I LOVE YOU DEARLY!

I love Mary's tote idea.
Here's something grossly embarassing. I was looking through the file cabinet for something and found all of Marie's envelopes of school pictures, you know, the ones I spent precious money on and left in the envelope all those years. I think it's too late to send them out to all the relatives now that she's graduating this year!
I love hearing about the super job you are doing. You've motivated me to (once I finish all the projects I am working on) THINK about starting to tackle all the random piles I've collected. I wish I had a closet floor to put them on, then it wouldn't be so embarassing when someone pays a surprise visit.
Keep it up! You're an inspiration.
And I actually have seen trucks around that do professional shredding for offices and such.

...oh, and I'm a smooth milk chocolate gal too. Ever had the chocolate covered dried fruit? It's amazing.

Good for you--you took time out for the Temple! Now you will definitely meet your goal. I find I accomplish a lot more in my week if going to the Temple is one of the activities. Keep up the good work! BTW, you hid the bags of papers nicely because I didn't even see them the last time I was at your home.

Okay, Michelle, good job on day 4. Even though you missed day 3 I will give you extra points since you used the time to go to the temple. Definitely a very worthy expenditure of your time! In fact, it's reminded me that Barry and I haven't been to the temple together in too long. Need to get on top of that.

Anyhoo, I think you know what I love as far as chocolate goes. We have very similar tastes, so I'd trust you completely. =)

Just kick your trash! Hee hee. I mean, don't be afraid to throw things away. The trash can is YOUR friend!
